Nancy Surma, OSF

Vice President of Mission Integration

Sr. Nancy ensures CHI Living Communities—deeply rooted in its Catholic heritage—continues fulfilling its mission and values for all residents, their families and employees.

Sr. Nancy is a native of Detroit. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio after high school, and taught mathematics in junior high and high schools before moving into administration in high schools. Later, she worked in Catholic colleges and universities.

Sr. Nancy earned a Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Administration from Boston College. In 2006, she entered into health care, serving as Senior Vice President of Mission Integration for Sylvania Franciscan Health.

After the system joined Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) in 2014, Sr. Nancy ministered in the Northern Kentucky National Office of CHI, where she had oversight of Mission Integration for CHI Living Communities and CHI Health at Home, plus served on the National Mission Team. In 2019, she began serving in her current role.

Sr. Nancy presently serves on the board of trustees for CHI St. Joseph Health System in Bryan, Texas, and on the Catholic Health Association’s Mission Leaders Advisory Committee.
